The 20th Show

We will be celebrating the 20th fun show this year. The emphasis is on the word “fun”. Although there is naturally an element of competition, the show is purposely kept as a light-hearted and fun affair. There will once again be traders serving waffles and pizza as well as a licenced bar and an area for tea, coffee, and cakes. Marmaduke’s craft market will be back again as well as stalls offering fun & games.

The Thwing & Octon Fun Village Show began life in 1995 as a small local event, but within just a few years it had grown so popular that the committee was struggling to handle it. Consequently, it was closed down. After a few years of absence, the show made a comeback in 2019, but it faced another challenge: it was too large for the small church room where it was sited, and the show needed to spill out onto the street. However, a revitalised and ambitious committee vowed to restore the show to its former glory and beyond. To do this it was decided to move to an outdoor site.

In 2021 the committee added a fete to the mix and relaunched the show (after another short break, this time due to the pandemic) on a spacious green field site. The show featured live music, races, sideshow games, a bar and food traders, plus a stunning display of exhibits. It was a huge success, attracting not only the locals, but also visitors from nearby villages. The show’s attendance increased, and the show is now a vibrant fun event.

So, mark your calendars for August 25th, Bank Holiday Sunday and join us for the 20th Thwing and Octon Fun Village Show and Fete. Whether you're a participant or a spectator, this event promises to be a celebration of talent, creativity, and community. Come and be a part of this cherished tradition and make lasting memories with friends, family, and neighbours.
