Humberside Police have issued a warning about holiday fraud. Scammers are targeting users on Facebook Marketplace, advertising log cabin breaks, caravans, and hot tub lodges across various locations in the UK often popular short break destinations. Here’s how the scam works:

  1. Adverts and Profiles: Fraudsters create multiple profiles with different names. They post enticing ads for holiday accommodations, prompting users to choose a date and make contact via Messenger.

  2. Payment Requests: Once in communication, the scammers ask for payment. They may request a deposit or full payment via bank transfer or PaySafe.

  3. Deceptive Tactics: Some scammers go further by contacting victims after a deposit is made. They claim to have received a cancellation booking and offer a better deal, urging victims to make full payment.

  4. Disappearing Act: After receiving the money, the scammers vanish. Their profiles disappear from Facebook, leaving victims without a booking or reservation.
